ENEWS FROM THE VICTORIA FOUNDATION

FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS

75 years and counting!

2011 marks the Victoria Foundation’s 75th year in this beautiful city! Join us as we celebrate our past and present accomplishments. Our web site is full of stories, people and statistics from our community through the years since 1936.  Have a look to see where we started, where we’ve been and where we’re headed!

Much of our history and impact on the community has been filled with the generosity of people who have left legacy gifts through their wills or other estate planning gifts.  We are grateful to the many professional advisors who have facilitated these gifts.

Celebrate with us!

As part of our 75th anniversary, the Victoria Foundation’s celebration event will be held on Saturday, June 11th. The evening’s keynote speaker will be Tim Brodhead, CEO of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation. Canada’s favourite comedian, Rick Mercer presented by Island Savings Credit Union, will entertain with an hour-long presentation. The evening will include a cocktail reception and a three-course dinner. As the Foundation does not want to compete with the non-profit organizations that it funds, the evening is solely a celebration. There will be no fundraising activities. You can purchase your tickets here.

Private Foundations without the hassle

Your clients may have an interest in establishing a private foundation but do not want the hassle of the management and regulatory requirements that would be required. The Victoria Foundation can provide an alternative to a private foundation that allows your clients to enjoy all the benefits while leaving the paperwork to us! Compare the alternatives and call us for more information.

Victoria Foundation's work with aboriginal communities

The Victoria Foundation was one of the first community foundations in Canada to host a First Nation settlement in 2008.  But that was not the first time CEO Sandra Richardson or the Foundation had worked with Aboriginal people in BC.  Read Making a Difference in First Nations Communities in BC - a recent article in The Scrivener - for more information about the Foundation's work in hosting two First Nation settlement funds, and administering several scholarship programs.
